Paychex Sucks
1.) Some of Paychex representatives are not competent or do not care. I've seen instances where paychex failed to provide social security numbers for employees on Government filed reports. Getting a social security number is not hard to get for an employee and they should know better than to file payroll returns and W-2's with out this REQUIRED information. This lack of care leads to payroll tax notices the company receives and could lead to penalties. And it is hard to get paychex to handle payroll tax notices even if it is their screw up.
2.) Paychex 401k fees are high and absurd. I have 401k with them and they charged me almost 20% in fees on my contributions. They call the fee the "Mid-Atlantic Trustee Fee". Such a high fee is unexplainable and shows that they don't care about the end customer and only care about profit. If my employer didn't match my contribution I would need to earn >20% from my investments which is not plausible in most instances. Furthermore, no statements or account information I received from Paychex gives information on how this fee is calculated.
3.) Payroll Reports - Paychex payroll reporting sucks. They need a system where their reports can be export to .CSV or excel format (NOT txt or unicode) for easy file keeping and application into accounting systems.

After using Paychex for 8 years, I have had enough! Moving on...

Meeting with my payroll specialists supervisor today to try to reconcile errors that have been made on my payroll and have caused NSF fees from my bank. Hopefully we will be able to figure out and correct these mistakes. I have asked that I be reimbursed for the NSF fees but have not received anything from them. These fees occurred in June. I am currently shopping for a new payroll provider and have come to the conclusion that Paychex will not be my provider for much longer.

If what you say is true, I wish you were my representative. I just got blown off and told to do everything myself on line. After spending time registering (not that easy with Paychex since even if one follows the directions, the system will not take your entries), I finally go on, only to get a message that the website was down. Oh, and now the phone system is also. I am NOT impressed.

I work at a doctors office and have been using Paychex for several years now. I dont understand why it cannot calculate correct hours. ie 1:00 to 5:00 will calculate as 3.84. When I inquire no will give me a streight answer.

If anyone has a question regarding services, policy or employment, please post below and I will check back from time to time. If you have an urgent matter you can email me at payxquestions[at]gmail.com. After more than a decade of drinking the kool-aid I am ready to give up their most deepest darkest secrets (and believe me, they have secrets) to once and for all tell the truth about Big Blue and Tommy G. I will dispel myth and/or confirm/deny rumors. Just to get you started:
Myth #1 - Padding your resume with 1 or 2 years of PAYX employment will help you move to the next level. FALSE
Potential employers know that territories will generate revenue with or without a sales rep. and since quota's are ramped, you would actually need 3+ years to be considered as a successful rep. In other words newbies, it's not going to further your career.

They do suck. I've been working with a representative there and she's been hostile to me since the first phone call. I totally don't know if I did anything bad to her but she's always impatient and not willing to answer any questions from me.
I.E, there's one time I was about to ask her whether the payroll taxes for a past period has been remitted to IRS. She interrupted me even before I finished that question and suggested me to "MAKE A 4HR PHONE CALL TO IRS TO GET YOUR EACH TAX PAYMENT CLEAR"! Can you believe that? They're the agent who collect and remit the payroll taxes but they won't give me a simple YES/NO answer and even tried to push me to IRS?! Then what's the point we're hiring them?
And see what's happened just this month. After working with her for 3 months, I surprisingly found that I'm not on the contact list! What's worse, she just left for vacation and none of her colleagues will provide me any information because I'm not on the contact list. To make things even worse, my boss was on vacation too so there's no way I can have myself on that fxxking list! When I was complaining this to one of her colleague, I was suddenly transferred, without any notice or inquiry, to the supervisor of the woman I used to work with. Another example for rude behavior, but fine, I can bear it. That happened next was unbelievable--her supervisor YELLED at me!!!! No apology, no explain, just YELLED AT ME, THREATEN ME TO GIVE MY BOSS A CALL, and HANG UP ON ME!!!!I was just telling him the situation and wasn't yelled at him at all!
If you thought that was the end, you're wrong. When she's back from vacation, she SCREAMED AT MY BOSS THROUGH THE PHONE!!! What's this company doing, PROCESSING PAYROLL or just YELLING at anyone who GETS IN TROUBLE because of THEIR BAD SERVICE??? I definitely don't want deal with ANY of them any more.

I paid Paychex for continued Cobra coverage, they cashed the check 5 weeks ago but didn't pay the health insurance carrier. They give the fat corporate answer. "We've escalated the case and moved it to the front of the escalations." How long is the list! Fix the frigging problem and get a clue.

I tried getting my 401(k) rolled over to a Roth IRA with my bank... First they REFUSE to do a direct rollover stating they "do not deal with banks" (Okie- Fidelity, ING, Lincoln Alliance all had NO issues doing it)... then on top of that they want to charge me a $65 "service fee" "because that process is so time consuming"- again, the other companies were SO nice and never charged me a rollover fee. This is MY retirement fund, MY money!!! WTF! I've lost so much money with their high fund administration fees already, now another $65 fee?!? Seriously??? And they are NOT pleasant to deal with on the phone at all!! If you check out their tanking stock, one word comes to mind: KARMA!!

These idiots created many user accounts for my account and it is very difficult to call them as their wait times are crazy high.

All I have experienced is lies, lies, lies from day 1. And their 401K rep came out and only cared about making the sale apparently. After the sale was made he did not fulfill what he said he'd do--come out again within the next week or two to go over the 401K system in the computer so I can actually use the service I had to pay $800 to set up. And, I'm again charged $88 this month even though I didn't pay anyone. I was told each paycheck would cost $55 with my discount when I signed up. It was never $55. Since that wasn't in writing they do not feel obligated. They should all be sent directly to hell. I just want to download my information and get them out of my business's life because they've been nothing but dishonest and impossible to deal with. Until finding this site, I didn't know others were experiencing the same thing, because they always treat me there like I'm being weird for trying to dispute anything. Like Voicestream used to do (to me and other) until they got sued and then had to change their name to T-Mobile due to all of the bad publicity over their shady practices.

Does Paychex allow employees to use their cell phones and take pictures while in the office on the job.???? Its insane what I have seen on internet sites and how people wrisK thier jobs!

I'll let you all in on a little tip that might help you solve some of your problems. But it will not get you anywhere if you are one of the idiot business owners that don't review your payroll reports or accept any responsibilities listed in your contracts. Call the corporate office at 585-385-6666 and file a corporate complaint. These go directly to the local branch managers and are required to be followed up on. I will also warn you that this is a stat tracked on you direct specialists annual review, so if you have a specialist that goes above and beyond for you, be cautious, that specialist may not feel obligated to do anything outside of the standard requirements for you any longer.

Honestly, Im just an outsider looking in. When employees are posting pictures and other info on Facebook it says a lot.
Monday January 7, 2013 @ 04:50 PM
Shouldn't Paychex have a system to determine the services and the quality the customer receives?
Wednesday January 9, 2013 @ 03:27 PM
Getting help with a problem or change at paychex is like pulling teeth.
Tuesday January 15, 2013 @ 02:02 PM
A paychex rep just hung up on me after I requested a statement on all retirement account transactions. Paychex is the worst payroll and retirement service provider I have dealt with in my 40+ years as an employee!! Do yourself a favor and ADVIOD PAYCHEX at all cost!

I agree that their customer service, products and systems are all flawed. I have used them as a small business owner for the last year. Every action I complete with them requires phone tag direction to multi points of contact and I rarely get the result I was looking for. I have had technical issues with their on-line system, they have overcharged me for fees, ignored me and failed to rturn calls. Just got my employees W2's and they only sent me 3 of my 6 employees W2's. The list in with the W2's even lists me as having 6 employees. I have come to realize they are complete morons and my days with them are numbered.

PayChex does suck. Wait until tomorrow, they changed the pull date for funds owed at the end of the quarter to Friday July 20th. The notification was done by a flyer in the Payroll packet, you know, like a high school would do about the Spring Festival.
It is a bush league attempt to generate fees. They also chose a day that will also be a pay day for thousands of companies.
When I questioned the policy change, they laughed at me.
Get a local business to do your payroll.
PayChex is what is wrong with American business. They are like bankers, or worse, because they prey on small business, and good, decent hard working people.
Get rid of them.
