Paychex Sucks
1.) Some of Paychex representatives are not competent or do not care. I've seen instances where paychex failed to provide social security numbers for employees on Government filed reports. Getting a social security number is not hard to get for an employee and they should know better than to file payroll returns and W-2's with out this REQUIRED information. This lack of care leads to payroll tax notices the company receives and could lead to penalties. And it is hard to get paychex to handle payroll tax notices even if it is their screw up.
2.) Paychex 401k fees are high and absurd. I have 401k with them and they charged me almost 20% in fees on my contributions. They call the fee the "Mid-Atlantic Trustee Fee". Such a high fee is unexplainable and shows that they don't care about the end customer and only care about profit. If my employer didn't match my contribution I would need to earn >20% from my investments which is not plausible in most instances. Furthermore, no statements or account information I received from Paychex gives information on how this fee is calculated.
3.) Payroll Reports - Paychex payroll reporting sucks. They need a system where their reports can be export to .CSV or excel format (NOT txt or unicode) for easy file keeping and application into accounting systems.

Paychex had not processed my Child support payment since March 2014, here it is August, I know this to be true because of the correspondence that I was cc'd on between PayChex and my company. I am looking at the legal aspect at this time

I am assuming the majority of the small businesses on here have a CPA who uses Thomson Reuters software. If so, you are eligible to get on a wholesale priced payroll service called myPay. If you would like me to check if you qualify, e-mail me the name of your CPA and I can check if you're eligible. In most instances we are much less expensive, you are assigned a processor (not a call center) and your CPA can oversee all reports. justin.dinatale[at]thomsonreuters.com

Paychex has cost our company A TON of time and money fixing the mistakes they clearly made and have admitted too. There have been so many tax delinquencies and fines due to the incompetence in their office. They can't even simply change our address to the correct one. Still a year and a half later as I pull reports for audits they have an address we haven't been at for over a year. We have gone to ADP and I am still fighting to fix things from LAST year due to Paychex mistakes. Incompetent. The reason we wanted a payroll company is so that we didn't have to deal with all this. What a mess!!! They didn't even have someone in their office that knew the tax laws when I told them they were doing the SUI taxes wrong!!! What a mess!!!! BEWARE!!! I also got cycled through 4 reps, last one being management, and they still didn't fix the issues...just passed the buck and blamed employees that were no longer at PayChex.

As an ex programmer for paychex, I can confirm that their software is filled with bugs and it's not always the client's fault. I spent so much time there debugging thousands and thousands of lines of spaghetti code with no documentation whatsoever to find and fix bugs that have existed for 1-5 years. I also spent a lot of my time there looking into support tickets and finding new bugs based on complaints. Eventually I got sick of spending the vast majority of my days debugging crappy code and figuring out tricky fixes instead of actually writing code and quit.

Paychex made an error calculating one of our employee's Medicare and SS withholding. The specialist tried to blame it on us, saying we must have made an error on the allowances on the W-4. (Medicare and SS withholding have nothing to do with W-4 allowances) Now we are waiting for them to issue a corrected W-2, employee cannot file her tax return with out this. Waiting, and waiting.
It's pretty easy to find better payroll companies with lower rates. I don't know why anyone goes to Paychex, so many options out there better in price, service, and quality. Every time I get a new bookkeeping client I switch out of Paychex asap.

Why did Paychex buy Benetrac? I guess it's one of those situations I have seen several times. They want the real estate but not the tenant. There are always skeletons in buyouts' closets but Benetrac has more than the normal.
I was only contracted there to build an application. I had to put my life on the life literally. Bought out by Paychex, "their transition" is an excuse for a poor product and poor business. Contractors are hired to fix their mess and they can't get out of the way. It just doesn't occur to these people that they no longer exist.
Horrible, unprofessional, high school diplomas. Benetrac has no structure, no HR dept.; just a free for all for whomever can siphon off money to overpay deadbeats under the table.
Benetrac is a fraud. Their software and product is broke and freezes up. They have to have a roomful of high school diplomas with the brains of an ant, answering phones to fix the errors. People could do a lot better at ADP or Intuit. They use unqualified non-technical people that just mess it up more. They put live data on test servers, disregarding HIPPA regulations.
Favoritism, discrimination, stalking, harassment, yelling, screaming, threats, and name-calling are their best skills. Sexual harassment, threats, intimidation, provoking fights; It goes on all day long. Then they go over to your house and stand on the sidewalk, screaming and threatening you and your neighbors. Gossiping and talking about you in front of you is another skill they exhibit. Oh yes, can't forget, the finger pointing and petty female hen pecking. The police have been called too many times. Now pending a lawsuit and restraining order.
I was fortunately laid off. There are too many high quality jobs on the market without their garbage. I have years of experience and degrees and I don't waste my time on the likes of them. I wouldn't touch this company with a ten foot pole. The only interest Paychex has is the payroll system and then dumping Benetrac on the street. It is the worst situation you can imagine.
Paychex’s senior staff termed them - excess baggage in the way. So there isn't any love lost between Paychex and Benetrac. Don't get caught in their problems. They'll suck you in and suck you dry.

Use anything besides paychex. They are terrible. Simply ask them what happens if an employee loses a paystub. They cannot even regenerate the paystub. If you need a mortgage and you lost a paystub. No luck

Paychex costs more than ADP, loses hundreds of sales a year to ADP, yet Paychex still has clients. Most people taking your payroll calls are entry level, even if they say their job title is Specialist. Do you know anyone going to college where working for Paychex is their goal when they graduate?
Thursday July 23, 2015 @ 03:45 AM
They have been challenged to have management sit at the desk and take calls all day and to my knowledge management has not taken this challenge.
Sunday July 6, 2014 @ 09:32 PM
They are a bad company not on time with pay checks or direct deposits. Beware
