Match.com Sucks
I recently paid for a Match.com subscription for six months on sale for $30 bucks. I didn't use it much and pretty much forgot about it until my card was charged after the subscription ended for a full year subscription for $113. Absolutely no warning email was given and support was very rude and unapologetic. I ended up having to issue a charge back through my credit card, which had a special handling procedure for Match since so many people end up having to issue charge backs.
Match.com change your unethical business model and earn your revenue fair!

Does anyone know if I can use a Visa gift card on match.com? after reading all the horror stories, I'm so afraid that they're just gonna keep charging me money even if I unsubscribe. and if I do use the gift card- I was mostly interested in the free trial just to see how it goes, should I put in enough for a 1 month subscription? or should I just put in like $10?

Why wouldn't you be able to use a visa gift card? They are accepted everywhere visa cards are. Put how ever much you are comfortable losing. Also OKcupid.com is free and is just as good as match.com in my opinion.

I was wondering if during the trial period, they check your credit card and put a 'hold' on the amount? that's why I was asking how much should I leave in there.

I agree that policy will kill them and other sites that practice fair policies and don't auto charge the customer will win. Future reference push for a supervisor and don't take no refund for an answer. They know they have to give you the full amount. They hope you wont try. Good luck to all

One great way to completely get around paying, is to put your AIM screen name as your user name (if the site allows it). it worked for me! i was getting IMs on aim a lot from people that caught on to that trick.
i didn't pay a cent yet still used the site to my advantage. F*** Match.com.
try yahoo personals or singlesnet.com. those are easy to get around paying too :) that's where i found my great bf of (going on) one year!

Yes you have to go to your account settings and cancel your subscription before the renewal date if you don't want to be auto billed. It's a crafty thing Match does but most of American business practise is like this. They use all kinds of studies to learn how to get more money out of people. It's a sad reality that each of us has to be aware of. Hell look at what CC companies do to get more money out of users. No such thing as simple straight forward whayt you see is what you get anymore! What I hate is when my subscription expires and I get emails I can't read. It's a trap because if I renew to read the messages and it's someone I don't like and go the rest of the subscritpion not meeting anyone then I just got screwed!! They should make it that you can't reply until you suscribe at least then you can choose if you want to suscribe based on an interest in the person contacting you.

To the match defenders. Yes, people need to read and take responsibility. I am a lawyer and I am alwsys giving adive to friends who did not read. Annoying. That said, a good business should not have to make a large percentage of its revenue by counting on the fact that people will forget to cancel/not read/etc. The best part is, since I am a lawyer, I read the REAL fine print where you can cancel within three days of signing up if you send a letter to their office in Los Angeles. You won't be charged at all. Not even for the first month. Why can't they cancel you just as easily as they sign you up? They can. Luckily I live in LA and just to see how they operate I've done it a few times and I have invariably met with match employees either pretending to not understand that I mean cancel now instead not don't bill me next time. Or the best, claming they didn't receive my cancelation. Oh, reallly? I sent it certified mail. Whoops. Oh, we're so sorry. Bottom line, match counts on people not having the follow through that I do. And while I wish most people would be more diligent, that's not how you run a business.

Did you just say go to plentyoffish.com? Are you F#%*ing kidding me? PLentyoffish was by far the WORST dating site in the history of the internet, pure and simple. I was on that site for 8 months and the women on there were the biggest egotystical, manipulative, snobby, shallow, and all around pieces of subhuman s#%& to ever walk the face of the planet. They are "sex and the city" wanna-be's that think their life is gonna play out just like the dumb b#%ches on that show, especially the OLD women. ANY women over 35 who thinks they are gonna land some hot, young, rich dude is out of her f#%&ing mind. The women on that site make islamic jihadist terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to cut your head off look like god d#%* saints, and that is absolutely NO exaggeration either, that is how bad they are. Go to www.pofsucks.com if you don't believe me and just read all the nice comments have left on their about their experiences with women on there. And I DID meet at least 3 women in person from that site too, so I'm not just rambling on because I never got a date. Every single one of those girls I went out with had mental problems worse than jeffery dahmer, only they did a very good job of hiding it while I talked to them online first. I don't care that the site is free either, any guy who goes on that site will absolutely 100% waste their time on their, mark my words. STAY AWAY! And the guy that runs the site (some canadian jerkoff named Markus) is the biggest bulls#%&ing scam artist on the face of the planet, hell he makes bernie madoff almost look good. How this piece of s#%& is still alive is beyond me. Trust me guys, STAY AWAY from plentyoffish.com if you still want to keep your dignity, reputation, and manhood.

88-14...WOW, you sound like a winner! I always wonder when a guy says that every woman he has encountered is "crazy" or any of the other wonderful adjectives you used. That is usually a warning sign for women to RUN!! Although your post was rather pathetic, I have to agree that plenty of fish.com is terrible. It is more like a "hook-up" site than it is a site to meet and have a relationship. I was on it for a month before I realized that. As for match.com, I have been very pleased. I actually read the terms of agreement and know that I need to cancel my membership before the time when they re-bill me. But I may also know this because I was burned by freecreditreport.com. Yeah, it is deceptive and wrong, but people really need to be careful when they put out their credit card information anywhere. The visa idea above is a very good solution to that!

I've mat a few great ladies on Match. That said, I believe they may use an unethical tactic to keep you enrolled. I may be reading to much into it but it seems fishy.
I had checked out a particular lady several times but made no contact. Three days before my subscription ran out (I was going to cancel)I get a wink from this lady and I wrote to her. Long story short, my subscription auto-renewed but this particular lady has not logged back in since then.
Would they do that?

Some truth to the purported unethical tactics in my opnion. I filled out a free profile but have not subscribed. Shortly after, I found it rather unusual to get (5) winks from younger, good looking ladies who have a wide-open search criteria (like height 4'11-8'-0 and ages of their desired dates much higher than their actual age). One lady, who is listed as 36 is wanting to meet her true love date from 40-55. Another was 41 and wanted to meet dates from 45-70. Immediately, Craigslist prostitution comes to my mind or the tactic of Match perhaps paying women to pose as single and purposely leave their search criteria wide open to hit as many matches in the system as possible, for the sole purpose of reeling you into the boat like a fish.......I'm 47, and highly skeptical of the supposed interest from these young babes.......when it sounds too good to be true........it usually is........Just use your best judgement and gut, that should help everyone decide if Match is for them or not...........

YES MATCH.COM SUCKS
I thought the ads were cute and maybe there is a chance to find love. BULLSH T you know. Their free weekend thing, oh how wonderful for thos that want to look and seem to be on MATCH.COM, but no there are only looking for free. They can't be contacted becasue they are not subcribers. WOw it looks like someone in my area has simialer intrests as I do and has the same likes. BUT NO, they are just looking at match.com for the free weekend. They are just suckers helping someone get more suckers to subcribe to MATCH.COM.
I just received a bill today for a renewal for $101.94, i unsubcribed when I didnt get my 6 months for free. I followed the rules to a TEE. I was even not able to access my account after the first six months was over, thinking that it was done and over I stopped going there. Then a bill for $101.94 for something I would not spend a dime on now. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME WITH MATCH.COM
Monday September 28, 2009 @ 08:44 PM
Oh yeah, almost forgot. WHen I was told my subscription was cancaled. I asked if I was getting a refund, I was told no, my subcription would run out in 6 months. I told him I wanted to speak to his supervisor, I was told I am getting a full refund.

I agree, there are fake profiles on match.com to get you sucked into their "helpful" service. Every person that winked or emailed, did not exist. Match.com is a big scam.

I get on plentyoffish once or twice every few weeks and ive met a lot of girls on there. I really like it

Saturday May 9, 2009 @ 04:05 PM
Same thing happened to me! It leads you to believe you are just trying it for ONE MONTH for a flat rate, when in essence its luring you in to continue charging you after the one month. They know they are scamming us that way, as they figure we wont catch it until we see our bank statement. Its sneaky business for sure. How can you even trust the site is really legit or even anything else. We need a class action lawyer on this for sure. I'm out over $110 and didn't realize they would charge every month for just one month. MATCH.COM SUCKS!
