Match.com Sucks
I recently paid for a Match.com subscription for six months on sale for $30 bucks. I didn't use it much and pretty much forgot about it until my card was charged after the subscription ended for a full year subscription for $113. Absolutely no warning email was given and support was very rude and unapologetic. I ended up having to issue a charge back through my credit card, which had a special handling procedure for Match since so many people end up having to issue charge backs.
Match.com change your unethical business model and earn your revenue fair!

I cancelled my account with Match back in July and I received the same email as JA8724 but I was just charged for a three month subscription yesterday and have received no reply from Match at this time. I was under the impression that this was an upstanding company but now I'm having my doubts. I've called their number for different phones but every time I press 2 or 3 the voice message just starts over or hangs up. I would appreciate any advice any one could post.

As a on and off user of Match.com since 1999: On Match I get a bunch of fake winks then the profile is deleted by the site if you wait about 24 hours. I get emails to the site; but I suspect most are fake emails--don't know because you can't read who they are from or read the mails--I know the games on that site and don't have a great desire to be a paying customer (again) to only read spam emails on their site. I've also written in my profile that there's a 99% chance I won't be reading emails and to send winks. Yet I continually get emails stored on the site every few days--fake profile users don't read. I've gotten a wink that I suspect is from a real person; but many winks you can't tell who they are from or if they are fake winks--mostly Match doesn't tell you who it is unless it's a fake wink. There are other lies the site has in the coding of the site--the dates and times don't always agree on their pages. I consider 99% of the contacts to be fake--99% of the fake profiles that sent the winks are deleted by the site soon-enough.
I only recommend okcupid.com and plentyOfFish.com for online dating site.

I paid for three months, quite certain that I had not chosen an option to rebill. I am unemployed so this was financially devastating. I did find a partner, its over now, but I don't see why they would need to bother creating fake stuff when there are so many of us lonely mugs out there. Avoid Match.com at all costs

I have received a refund for an over charge from Match.com, it was easy, and they were courteous so I'm not sure what you all are talking about. Also I met my child's father on that site so I'd say it works well. Actually he is the one who got the refund for the over charge. I met him on my 3 day free trial. Never paid a penny and met my husband. Recommend it to anyone.

I've never used match.com. But I've dealt with many companies that have an auto-renew feature as part of the binding contract. I realize not ALL complaints here are based on auto-renew, but if you want to live in a 'free society', with 'free markets', personal responsibility is a must. Be self-made, self-determined, and respect the freedoms of others... including the freedom to attempt to screw you. If a law was broken, do use the lawful court and the court of public opinion. But, don't be a ninny.

Here's the real secret to being done with Match.com ASAP if you want a refund and just got billed: Tell them you met someone on the site and are really happy with the service and will recommend it to all of your friends. If you say anything else when you call they WILL hassle you before you get what you want. This will get you in and out as quick as a trip through the drive-thru.

Speteroo9 is a scam

I got a shock when i saw the charge on my credit card account. Plus 95% of the winks i get are fake. You'd think with the money they're making they could pay someone to vet the profiles more carefully.

I received an offer to pay only 50% of the renewal rate to get a few more months' service, but my account page says I'll have to be the full amount on the auto-renew. Spent 2 hours on the phone today with supervisors at Match. They say it was a "one-time offer" which I used last time even though when I went to cancel, I got this message:
Are you sure you wish to cancel your subscription? You accepted a one-time, special 50% off renewal rate that will no longer be available to you if you cancel now.
They won't honor that rate and I WILL NOT pay the full rate after being promised half of that. Very deceitful on their part. They want me to renew automatically at full price (no refunds) while believing I'll be charged half.

All dating sites are providing a significant level of misinformation. And they will attempt to rip-off in any form possible. It may not be easier, but it is far better to get involved with people you have something in common with and meet someone that way. Kind of old fashioned.

Guys on Match.com are really messed-up not worth $19.95 I should spent my money on a wonder mop would have gotten more bang for my bucks. A large majority of the males wanted to be treated like the female in a relationship. The men of Match.com have NO real idea of what it takes to be a man. My reply to Match.com and it's false advertising is best said by artist Cee Lo Green's "Forget You"...

The only way to stop auto-renew is to complain to the Federal Trade Commission. If they get enough complaints, it will start the process of establishing laws against this or more transparency from the company.

Match.com does suck! I was on for a good while. Really old farts that were gross or really young guys that thought they would get a night of fun.... No filter, gross and sleazy!!!!!

Why can't someone pay using PayPal? This can be setup so approval is needed to put through the charge. I think this would stop Auto Renew?

I can't argue with the fact, that Match.com sucks! I have reported dozens of fake Nigerian scammers and the profiles remain. I have benn IM'd by many of them. Match.com leaves them up, because they are PAYING for the service. If the Nigerian invests the money for a subscription? Then Match.com is happy to let them troll the website NATIONWIDE. Looking for simpiltons, that think a 23yr old woman wants a guy, 40-65yrs old. She just needs some cash to make the move to his town!
As far as the REAL "women" on the website. My experience has been mixed. Met some semi-sane women, attractive, etc. I am 45yrs old, 6', 5 day a week gym rat, all my hair and teeth, make 6 figures, etc. And 85% of women, aged 35-55, want guys 1yr older, to 10-15yrs younger? He MUST make 50% more than they do, He MUST have a degree, while they have "some college?". BE "athletic and toned," while they are "about average," "curvy" or "a few EXTRA pounds?" His kids MUST live away from home? They are 5' 2" and he MUST be at least 6'? Work in the military/Law enforcment, medical/dental, executive/mgment, or legal fields? Be energetic, make THEM laugh, not TOO serious, yet driven? The list goes on and on.
My take is this. Semi-attractive women doing online dating, on ANY website. Is inundated with e-mails from guys all over the country. 90% plus, are just guys wanting to get laid. (or are married) So it causes these women to become MORE manic, then they already were. Self esteem boost, yet seriously OVER estimate their attractivness, value and worth. It warps their minds into believing, they can just short order a man/relationship. (eggs over medium, runny yolk, steak medium, hot pink center, Perrier mineral water, etc)
And they soon learn the game of serial dating. They don't have to pay for drinks, a meal, movie, concert, etc. Just go online, send a wink and get a meal ticket for the evening. If he is decent looking, etc, she will keep him around for awhile. Paying for cruises, trips, jewelry, perfume, spa's, etc. But when the "newness" wears off, she will be jonesing for the "online ego boost." And will be back on, likely in secret. Until she can "better deal" herself, out of her current relationship. 80% of women online are nothing but, demanding, double standard, lying, high maintanence, cougar wannabe, attention whores.

When they try to renew and YOU didnt cancel the subscription they wont be able to get anything from you. Nopthing is linked to a credit card bank account or anything its all prepaid from walmart. You people on here are lame as hell and no wonder you didnt get any replies from women on there.

Too many fake profiles on the site; alot of scammers. I think you should have to provide proof of your identity. I paid for access to meet people, not deal with idiots who do nothing but waste my time.

Match.com is a total joke. They send you "matches" that don't line up with what you're looking for. Whatever you're looking for, you can search for and find that even your query turns up men that don't match up with anything. I was looking for a single white professional man with a masters degree and up. I was constantly matched with black men that generally had a high school education. I was totally pissed and didn't get my "guarantee". What I did get what 2 dates in a year (and I'm not unattractive), and the messed up thing was both those dates were only looking to get laid. I don't recommend you use this joke of a site.

We hope you've been successful in your search for a match. Rest assured that your account will NOT be automatically renewed. You will no longer receive the benefits of a Match.com subscriber. Under no circumstances should your account be charged after your subscription expires.
I just cancelled and this is the email that was sent to me. Match told me several times that I will not be charged if I cancel and will no longer have the benefits of emailing, winking, etc after my subscription ends. What is so hard about canceling? I joined AND cancelled the same day so I don't forget to resign my subscription... YOU NEED TO THINK AHEAD PEOPLE!! BE PROACTIVE!! TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY!! You will get the same email if you cancel your subscription AND if you are billed, SAVE YOUR RECEIPT as proof of the cancellation date. MATCH CANNOT DISPUTE THAT AND WILL HAVE TO ISSUE A REFUND IF THEY ARE INCORRECT IN BILLING YOU!!!! I've been on several times over the past 10 years and have never had a problem.......
