This is a wide spread job scam. Most of the time the scammers gets your email address from ads placed on Craigslist. Avoid any association with this scam and do not respond to any emails from HL Plastics If you already sent an email with your information they will promptly send you check to deposit once your job application is "accepted". Do not cash any checks received from the this "job". The scammers are issuing fraudulent checks using accounts of real companies. Once the bank finds out the the checks are fake or fraudulent they will reverse the deposit. Even know the money may show in your account initially, it will soon be taken out.
If you received a scam from a different company please forward the scam to:
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

I DID receive this exact e-mail after responding to an ad on Craigslist. I was smart enough to check out the business name on google because I thought it was too good to be true. Thanks for the warning! I've been unemployed for almost 2 years now and the money would be great - but I can't afford to play games with what little credibility I have with my bank at this time. Am barely able to hold on to my home - am 4 months behind - . Again - thanks for the warning.

I'm pissed. Knew it was a scam when I received the poorly written form letter. It's asking for all of the information that was on my resume...address, phone number, etc. WTF! I'd like to punch whoever is responsible for this scam in the nose for wasting my time. Like looking for a job isn't aggravating enough already...right?
Tuesday July 14, 2009 @ 02:57 PM
Hey thank you SO much for putting this up I applied for this position on craigslist and i received the exact same information which I had doubts about. The job looked promising but if it wasn't for this add I probably wouldve gotten scammed thatnks so much.
Tuesday July 14, 2009 @ 04:32 PM
Same here. I got really excited that I had a response in my inbox. It seemed sketchy, I Googled it, and found this.
So frustrating!
Tuesday July 14, 2009 @ 09:35 PM
I got TWO emails exactly like this. It makes me sick to think that - while 10% of the USA is now unemployed - these people pull our strings like we're pupppets to be played with!
Wednesday July 15, 2009 @ 12:27 AM
Caveat emptor! I received one of these from a supposed company in the UK. I did give my info (no financial or SS#). I realized that it was a scam & when they told me they were going to send 2 laptops to my address, I promptly contacted them, told them that I would deliver the merchandise to the police station & their "client" could pick it up there! I emailed this link to this scam posting. Thanks Google!

I also received the email from Jon Williams/ HL Plastics company on 7/11 Sat. the first email saying the exact same info asking about my personal contact information. At first I didn't sense it that it would be a scam until I got the second email from them on 7/13 telling me that I got the job. So that is when I felt something is wrong and started to investigate. I ended up here which I am thankful that I now know that it was all a scam! I am glad that I know now and didn't send them my bank info but I did send them my contact information which I regret it so much and my resume. So I received a check from them this morning from UPS. The check was signed on 7/14 and payable to my name. So I did call the company that was on the check and let them know. Here is my question, what shall I do now? How do I take care of this fraudulent check? Can I shred them? Please let me know. Thanks for helpful advice and info about this!
