This is a wide spread job scam. Most of the time the scammers gets your email address from ads placed on Craigslist. Avoid any association with this scam and do not respond to any emails from HL Plastics If you already sent an email with your information they will promptly send you check to deposit once your job application is "accepted". Do not cash any checks received from the this "job". The scammers are issuing fraudulent checks using accounts of real companies. Once the bank finds out the the checks are fake or fraudulent they will reverse the deposit. Even know the money may show in your account initially, it will soon be taken out.
If you received a scam from a different company please forward the scam to:
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

Thursday May 28, 2009 @ 09:13 PM
Ditto! I'm glad I print all the Craig's List jobs I apply for so I know if it is a legitimate response.
Thursday May 28, 2009 @ 10:18 PM
This is a total scam. I looked it up on craigslist and i looked it up and turns out its a scam. Its not the only time they have done it. theres many different ones.
Friday May 29, 2009 @ 10:29 AM
The tip off for me was when they state that my first duty was to receive money in the form of wire transfers. No legitimate company has a contract employee receive company money into a personal account. When I googled the company name, I found these listings from the UK....big tip off. They have cleaned up the English to read pretty correct. These people are scum. My response read verbatum as Agnes on May 27th.
Friday May 29, 2009 @ 11:55 AM
Yep, I got one too. The red flags for me was the personal information upfront and the job offer without an interview, not even a phone interview. Admittedly, it felt kind of good for a second to think I might have gotten a job. Ah well, back to the drawing board...
Friday May 29, 2009 @ 06:01 PM
I got the email several days back, and got this check in front of me. It's make payable to my name, so I don't know what to do with it... /Thanks for the site, and infor here.
Saturday May 30, 2009 @ 12:25 PM

I got it at the ass crack of dawn today, a Sunday, and it smelled from the first. Especially when i got to the part about using my own bank account. Thank you for being out here.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 08:59 AM
I received the same email... I guess I took to long to respond, so they just sent me another one asking if I was still interested. Before answering I wanted to do a google seach and here I am. I am so glad someone started this blog, it is extremly helpful.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 11:15 AM
What should we do with the cheques we receive and how do we get them to stop coming home?
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 12:25 PM
RE: Rasta
You should either shred them or call the company on the check and tell them you think you received a fraudulent check in their name. Remember that the company/name on check may not be aware that scammers are trying to use their checks in this scam.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 02:32 PM
I'm so stupid to think that someone actually wanted to hire me. ugh...I was dooped
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 02:38 PM
I have received the same email as everyone else has and I did foolishly send them my address before I looked into greater detail. I received a check in the mail today from Fedex for 2,850.00 Which someone above mentioned too. Except the company is Solar Path Inc. and has Wachovia Bank on it as well. I have never heard of Solar Path and the fact that this check came so close with my response to that email I think they have to go together. Can't find anything on that company and I have called the Bank and the lady confirmed it is a fake account and that it has a lot of alerts on it.
So look out for them using lots of different company names. SOLARPATH INC IS A FRAUD CHECK. If you are sent one: Report it and Rip it up!
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 02:46 PM
I actually got an email from the EXACT same thing.
they posted it on craiglist.com as a customer service position, no experienece required. sounded perfect, but i've been scammed before by a secret shopper thing i did, so i was cautious when they hired me before talking in person, doing a background check, and wanted me to cash a check then forward them money to another country.
thanks, you did help
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 02:52 PM
RE: JO
Can you forward me the solarpath email. I want to make a separate post for it. Send it to
Tuesday June 2, 2009 @ 02:03 AM
I have just recieved an e-mail like this. It souned like a scam to me so I decided to research the company name which is HL Plastics, and surely there's a website about them and it looks like they do manufacture something, but I think someone is using their name to create 'job' scams like this one. I went to their website and clicked on their career section and their job application looks nothing like the one above. Thanx for this blog!

It was stollen info from a old business that no longer has that account. Bumber! Yeah this is crazy, but luckily I kept all emails and papers.
