This is a wide spread job scam. Most of the time the scammers gets your email address from ads placed on Craigslist. Avoid any association with this scam and do not respond to any emails from HL Plastics If you already sent an email with your information they will promptly send you check to deposit once your job application is "accepted". Do not cash any checks received from the this "job". The scammers are issuing fraudulent checks using accounts of real companies. If you received a scam from a different company please forward the scam to:
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

I just got the email too. I thought it might be a scam first because they asked for all the information when i had already sent them my resume. And then the fact that it was craigslist. I looked up HL Plastic on the internet and it is located in the UK and England. Why do people have to do this. It rediculous.

Yes probably someone in Plastics, he gave out an email address thomashoulihan[at]gmail.com it was found on craigslist.com on long island, ny. Someone thinks your company was so far fetched. Too bad their requirements hit home to someone already in plastics, something in that office that happened was used in the job description. A very practical person to a point using someone else's company and anothers motive. Probably in Plastics

I just got a reply from them today! I knew it was too good to be true. I didn't feel comfortable sending them all my info since I already attached a resume. So I Google and found this page. I'm so glad that I searched about the company first. It didn't make sense for them not to include any contact info. Thank you, you guys.

Wednesday May 27, 2009 @ 04:21 PM
Good job..hope they get caught up!!
Wednesday May 27, 2009 @ 07:18 PM
I got the same response to the same ad as everyone else. I googled HL Plastics and emailed them. They emailed me back saying it was a scam. I reported the listing and the email address they were using to Craig's List and flagged the posting today. I cannot stand these people..now, I would say the jobs on Craig's List are 50/50 in terms of being "real." What a bummer!...(besides all the people who want to low-ball you at some low rate because they can right now). Good luck out there....!

I actually just received an email just like the one you described above. I received it a few day after I sent my resume to some postings on craigslist so I thought it was a reply from one of the companies I sent my resumes to. After reading contents I realized that it sounded a little too good to be true so I went online to check the company out and/or news abouts scams linked to the company and that's when i came upon this site. It's always a good thing to do a little research, or else you might face the risk of being scammed.
Thursday May 28, 2009 @ 04:59 AM
Thank you
I got this email... it seemed a little strange
I didn't send them anything but my basic info requested in the letter above... email, home address and phone number etc so hopefully I should be okay
This was very helpful!
I will do my best to severe all ties with these scammers immediatly

I recieved this same e-mail late at night and I quickly notice something wierd about it. so this morning I decided to see if there was any such thing as HL Plastics and thank God I found this web site to learn it was a scam. but there were some changes to the e-mail they sent me from the one above.
Sunday May 24, 2009 @ 02:37 PM
Not only is this a scam, they've actually scammed me before under another company name. They said I would be posting advertisements for them and they would pay me $200.00 per posting. They sent me a check for $1300.00 to get me started and told me to make sure I cash it at MY BANK ONLY! Once I got the check they sent me an email saying that the job had already been done and to wire the money to a certain account they provided me with. I took the check to THEIR BANK and when I tried to cash it at Wells Fargo, there was a red flag on their account and the bank informed me that the funds were not available and that they had been having many problems with that account. I know this is the same company because they were over seas as well with the same type of shitty ass website with a picture of a cow on the home page which was the only page to their website and had no contact information with inconsistent names for contact personnel. When I emailed them and told them that I had been to their bank they cursed me so horribly and said some VERY unprofessional things to me. Next thing I know that proclaimed company was no longer in existence but other similar "wire transfer" job positions kept popping up under different names over seas with similarly crappy websites. I hope no one has been scammed and lost their money to a faceless entity.
