This is a wide spread job scam. Most of the time the scammers gets your email address from ads placed on Craigslist. Avoid any association with this scam and do not respond to any emails from HL Plastics If you already sent an email with your information they will promptly send you check to deposit once your job application is "accepted". Do not cash any checks received from the this "job". The scammers are issuing fraudulent checks using accounts of real companies. If you received a scam from a different company please forward the scam to:
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

I actually responded to a vague ad on craigslist for an admin because I've basically been applying for every half decent marketing job that comes along so when I go this email it wasn't out of nowhere. However, the sketchy english and vagueness of the email made me suspicious so I'm really glad this site was here to let me know it was definitely a fraud. Thanks!
Saturday May 9, 2009 @ 12:00 PM
This is very helpful! Since I responded to so many job postings, it's difficult for me to remember if I applied for that position or not. However, what alarmed me was that the email is asking for my information again instead of my "resume". I always email my cover letter and attach a resume to the email whenever responding to a job posting. When in doubt, I said "google" it.

This is another one that I had received before, they actually sent me a cashiers check for $5200.00 can you believe that. I went to the bank it was drawn from Chase and they couldn't cash it because I didn't have an account with them. They wanted me to keep basically 300.00 and send the rest via western union to some guy for supplies. I e-mailed them back letting them I was unable to cash it and to give me a address to send it back. To this day I haven't heard from them since.... I WONDER WHY!!!

I responded to an add on craigslist and HL plastics was the exact letter I got back. It seemed suspect for all the reasons given, and I am so glad I googled this before trying it out. Thanks
Wednesday May 13, 2009 @ 04:01 PM
Here is the e-mail letter I received today.
I did apply with a resume for this job on craigslist, but
I always check out any company that responds
to my application before responding to see if
I'm interested, how to approach negotiations,
and if the location of the job makes sense.
I went to the HL Plastics website, and they
looked like a real company, but why would
they sell watches if they are a plastics
extrusion company? Also, why would I send
the money to Spain when the company is
in England? In addition, why would they
give me an invoice of my income instead
of my invoicing them?
I was tempted to reply since I really need work
like the rest of you! But I was also curious what they
were up to and something seemed fishy.
The grammar was also suspect, for example.
A friend said google the name of the company and scam,
which led me to your web site.
BTW, I also tutor on the side, and got an e-mail
response saying that the child was coming over
from a foreign country and I should help process
the plane fare by accepting wired funds and
buying the ticket (I don't remember all of
this; it was last year) but some of the tutor
ads on craigslist still have suspect grammar and
say things like take good care to school my
child or something intense like that. I may
reply to some of them and report back here just
to see if people are also being scammed by them!
I am so glad to read your blogs, thanks for the website.
Best to you all in your job hunting endeavors!

RE: Ashima
You would have to be really dense to come to this thread and still have to think whether you received a scam or not.
Thursday May 14, 2009 @ 05:27 AM
Yes, I was job searching on Craigslist and applied to a few places and I guess this was one of them and it sounded good, but then I saw the reply for it and usually they don't reply as they did. So, I found it suspicious. If it was a job agency company that would be different but this had a lot of red flags in it.
i hate scammers. i just want to find a good job, not to be messed with.
Thursday May 14, 2009 @ 05:38 AM
Just found the real deal http://www.hlplastics.co.uk/ but doesn't mean the e-mail response for jobs is real. i wonder if this company knows about this spam thing going on.
