Actually I don't know anything about HTML 7. In fact I haven't even fully grasped the changes in HTML 5 yet. I was just wondering... how successful would a blog be if you wrote only about the future?

The problem with blogs currently is too much competition. For every blog topic you think of one million bloggers already wrote about, leaving your blog in the last pages of search results. In fact, I would have used "HTML 6" as this article title but there are already 1.6 million results in Google for html6, even though html 5 is the current release version.

So writing about the future there is less competition and more likely to get good search visitors. I commonly write about topics that I found have little search results but let's see how writing about the future fares. Thanks for reading and being a part of this experiment.

Apparently I have a very easy to mistype/misspeak email address and am constantly receiving misguided emails. I even wrote about this issue in the past (by the way my echild now has 10 absense and 1 tardy... tisk tisk tisk)

I was just wondering what other people do when they receive emails that weren't intended for you. Do you reply and let the person know? In the past month I received a funeral notice, a resume (to pass along), a picasa album invitiation, Budget rental confirmation, dog photos all intended for some one who has the same first initial and last name as me but different email. It's not always to the same person... sometimes it is to Todd, Terry, Teresia, or Thomas so it not only one person giving out an incorrect email address. So is it my obligation to reply to all the emails and tell the sender they have the wrong email address? Or do I let them figure out the mistake themselves? I mean I do feel a little bad that someone could miss a funeral or job offer because they got the wrong email address but can't everyone be a little more careful with who their sending this stuff too?

What are your thoughts?

Google has decided to fire it's lawn landscaper and call a goat herder to bring in 200 goats to eat it's lawn. They take about a week to mow its lawn at its Mountainview, CA headquarters and Google claims it costs the same as mowing. Nice approach on going green guys...

According to Google tjshome.com may harm your computer. If you do a search for tjshome.com you get the following warning message under each result "This site may harm your computer"

Apparently it's not just Tjshome.com a Google search for "Google" turns up the warning message as well.

I guess billion dollar companies don't test their code before they implement it either.

Google is constantly monitoring my site and issuing new features to me daily through their ton of services I use from them. We all know I need Google to survive and Google needs me to survive. Okay well maybe not the latter.

Most recently they enabled event tracking on my Analytics account. Analytics tracks visitors data and Event tracking adds the ability to track interactions with Web 2.0 style content such as Flash, AJAX, Silverlight, social networking apps. Unfortunately tjshome.com isn't exactly Web 2.0 style so I probably have little use if any for this. But wanted suggestions from other web developers on how to make use of this feature from others and see how you putting this feature to use. So is anyone using this? It's only available to select account as of yet and I couldn't find much helpful information with a google search.

Here is the email I received:
google.com said:
Greetings from Google Analytics,

We are happy to let you know that the Event Tracking feature is now available in all profiles for the following Google Analytics Account ID: 624085. Please note that you are receiving this email update because you are an 'Admin' or designated contact for the account listed above.

When you log in to these profiles, you will see a new set of reports called "Event Tracking" under the Content section. As posted on our blog, this is a limited release currently available only to select profiles.

Event Tracking allows you to track interactions with Web 2.0 style content such as Flash, AJAX, Silverlight, social networking apps, etc. We recently made tracking Adobe Flash even easier with the release of a new Flash Tracking client library. It allows for much simpler tracking of Flash content with drag and drop functionality and an open source framework.

To use Event Tracking, you will need to upgrade your site to use the new ga.js javascript. Detailed instructions on how to set up Event Tracking on your site are available on our CodeSite.

To find your ga.js code snippet, edit the settings for your profile and click the "Check Status" link on the upper right corner of the page. You can now track interactions beyond just pageviews.

Sincerely,

The Google Analytics Team

Every tech blog has had a Google Goggles post. Now I don't think many would consider this a tech blog and I am late to the game but here it is:

If you haven't heard Gmail Goggles prevents sending regrettable drunk emails by requiring you to take a quiz before sending emails during set times.

Now this is pretty clever. Who would of thought the email would have such historical advances in 2008?

I think that Google added this feature as more as gimmick and publicity stunt than usefulness. But what I wonder is why instead of a quiz why can't they add an "unsend" button to emails. I understand that they are unable to retrieve emails that have already been sent, however, they could hold the emails for a set period of time (set by user) on their servers before sending them. Or what's stopping you from being able to retrieve an email sent to another gmail user that hasn't been read? Has this feature been considered?

As an auditor you are responsible for knowing if something happens to your cleints that will affect their financial condition or subject them to legal issues. I am sure their a lot of professions where you have clients and want to know if they are in the news. Now most of the time you could just go to the companies webpages and click "news release", however the only problem is this will only give you the news the company wants you to hear. To get both good and bad news use google alerts. Google alerts will send you an email everytime a search term (such as your clients name) shows up in a new news stories. So far I've been alerted to a million dollar lawsuit and a death at one of my clients facilities just by reading the news.

link: Create a Google Alert

Select "News" as type to just get results in news stories only.
