If you received another job scam featuring another company please forward the email to .
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A Google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
9.) The email fails to mention you by name. Starts off with generic opening (ie: Dear job seeker, Dear applicant).
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

I had receive something like this last year took it to my bank & took my 10% out then the rest I send in a money transfer to who they told me 5 days later I find out from my bank that the check was no good. My bank cancelled my account they send me a letter stating that the amount $ 1,429.00 has to be paid which includes fee's from my bank & the money I took out the money & send to the person western union transfer,I had receive a letter from my bank stating to pay the balance, also stated in the letter that an investigator was going to prosecute criminal charges aganist me for this check, after that letter I receive another from a Nationwide Credit Inc. which represent my bank, & told me that I had to pay the balace of $ 1,429.00. So I had made arrangement to pay the balance when I receive my income tax check I had to give the whole check to them. I was really upset about this whole situation. I will not let it happen again. I'm going to report this to the Attorney General Office to see if I can get my money back. I just wish craigslist would catch these scammers right away so this won't happen again.

I received this email not to long ago.

I received the very same email a few minutes ago and I thought it sounded fishy. They're saying I'm qualified to deal with other peoples money from home, with no background check and no interview. I don't even have a college education and I'm only 20. The hardest job that I've had is receptionist work. So, I decided to look them up. They don't have a website and there's not much information on them other than a few sites mentioning them and the law. Well... I don't want to mess with that... and I'm also glad I found this place to confirm my suspicions. But anyway, I received this as a reply to me sending my resume to job-jsnj4-1194814669[at]craigslist.org and the job title was Customer Service Job (New York). You can't play games when it comes to handling other peoples money. Especially in large amounts. Thanks again for people like you who post things like this for innocent people. Also, if you'd like to know of another scam that crossed my path recently from responding to yet another craigslist job posting, the name of the company is Vector. Just look it up on Google and you'll see what I mean.

I'm trying to sale a dining room table on craigslist and this org. is wanting to send me a money order for my asking price plus shipping cost. I am to cash the M.O. and wait till it clears and then send their shipping company the cost of shipping and they will pick it up and deliver to Wagner Mills Inc.
They will wait until it clears the bank at least before I send anyone any money.
So whats up? Anyone have any ideas if they are up front or not? We are talking amost a thousand dollars here.
They sure make it clear that all this depends on "Trust".
Whatever. They have not ask for any infomation of any kind except some specs on the table itself.

RE: Bryan
Don't do it. There are tons of obvious signs this is a scam. 1.) The buyer is using a company known for Craigslist scams. Did you even read the post above? 2.) The "company" is asking you to to send them money even know you are the seller. 3.) They are using Craigslist (a local classified site) to find a table from a different place then they are located? Why?
So yes it's a scam and you would be ignorant to go through with it.

RE: Angelica
Thank you for your comments and I am glad to hear you appreciate the page.
If you are talking about vector marketing (Cutco Knives) I know about them but they operate at a different league. They are a true US Company and actually do pay people and abide by US laws. The problem is it's very hard to make a respectable earnings with their business model. I wouldn't waste my time with it and don't suggest others too but it's not as bad as these other scams where scammers are trying to flat out fraud people to send cash.
Sunday May 31, 2009 @ 12:09 PM
HA! No I didn't read but maybe one of the comments up there.
I just have a gut feeling that this wasn't on the up and up.
I think I'll play around for awhile.

Monday June 1, 2009 @ 01:41 PM

Monday June 1, 2009 @ 01:54 PM
I just received this same exact email a few moments ago. I remember seeing something like this on the local news about scams like this who wipe out your bank account. I am so glad I did a research on Wagner Mill...BEWARE of this email.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 02:28 PM
I recieved this same email and I had attached my resume to it with just my work history and name. I'm glad I looked the company up and thanks guys for putting up this website, its very informative. I don't know how worried I should be by attaching my resume. As I was going through the email and with the 1st mention of money I totally thought it was a money laundering scheme, it gave me goose bumps. If anyone has any suggestions regarding sent resume please let me know. Thanks again.

After all these comments, it seems nothing is being done about these people. Maybe the FBI should be involved in stopping these people from scamming individuals that are desperate in searching for jobs. What good does it do to place these comments if nothing is being done and there is no blocking from craigslist job ads.

RE: Miriam
Enough might not being done by Craigslist and authorities to alert the public or stop these scams. However, if you read the comments you will notice that this blog has helped a lot of people. This post has received 1300 hits from Google search alone, that's 1300 people we could have saved from being involved in this scam. If you received a job scam with different content or a different company then those already posted I encourage you to post that information here because then this post with come up in additional search results. I understand that I am only helping a small proportion of people but I do what I can, which is better than nothing.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 04:24 PM
I saw this letter and I googled it. I wouldn't mind forwarding this letter to an FBI agent.
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 10:54 PM
I recieved this email and I knew right away that it was a scam! The misspelling was too obvious! The Morons' need to learn how to spell!! I got mine in response to a job that was posted on Craigslist!Even in these tough times, people just don't know enough to cut out the nonsense!
Monday June 1, 2009 @ 11:21 PM
Yeah, forward it to an FBI agent, I made the same mistake... don't reply!
Wednesday June 3, 2009 @ 12:12 PM
I received this same exact email...I'm glad I googled it as well! I would think that someone looking for employees would have a better command of the English language...that was my first clue that this wasn't right!
Wednesday May 6, 2009 @ 10:29 AM
I just got this email a few minutes ago. I've been getting a few responses like these after answering some Craigslist ads. Maybe Craigslist should be informed about this.
