Avoid any association with this scam and do not respond to any emails from HL Plastics If you already sent an email with your information they will promptly send you check to deposit once your job application is "accepted". Do not cash any checks received from the this "job". The scammers are issuing fraudulent checks using accounts of real companies. If you received a scam from a different company please forward the scam to:
How do I spot a job scam?
1.) The message is for a position that you did not apply for
2.) The message is from or asking for a reply to an email address from a free email provider (ie: @yahoo.com, @gmail.com)
3.)The position is for a work at home job. Let's get real here most of these positions are hard to come by.
4.) The message provides no phone and/or no mailing address
5.) The company does not have a website or the website was created in the last year. Do a whois lookup to see when a domain was created.
6.) The job has few qualifications
7.) The message is written with poor english
8.) A google search for the company finds little or no history for the company
*** This list is not all inclusive. Remember if you have to ask yourself if it's a scam it probably is!
What should I do if I provided my information to scammers?
- Do not respond to further communications.
- If you sent bank Information: Call your bank immediately and tell them what happened. They should be able to change your account number or cancel your account.
- If you are still concerned you might want to enroll in credit monitoring such as LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention
- You can also file a claim with The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), and the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). They are probably overloaded with these types of claim though, so I would not expect an individual response. You can also contact the Better Business Bureau or your states attorney general's office
- Post a comment below with any information you have on this scam to inform other people to try and avoid any future victims. Post the email you received with exact wording if different from original posted so when people search for terms they find this warning.

I also received this same e-mail the day after I responded to the craigslist ad. It did sound too good to be true. What jerks.
Monday June 15, 2009 @ 10:05 PM
I received this email on a Sunday which had me questioning it from the get-go. Also it was from a gmail address which I thought was suspicious. The fact that they mention depositing money into your account made me have to look this one up. Their website definitely looked legit but I was still suspect. This was helpful and saved me a lot of headaches.

I knew it was a scam when I noticed the email was responded to at 4am and said the HR managers had already checked it. I'm so glad I googled it a found this. Just didn't make sense that the company had a co.uk address!
Let's all hope we can find something real... and soon!! But I think it's time to give up on Craiglist...for jobs at least
Tuesday June 16, 2009 @ 11:58 AM
I too sent my resume and received this e-mail. I immediately googled the company along with the word scam since unfortunately I have run into many scams trying to find a job in this hard economy.
Irony, recession initiated and fueled by immoral fat cats on wall street, while those cats are being chased down and otherwise occupied with government investigation...the rats are now free to capitalize on society and profit from those economically depressed individuals who are trying their best to keep their heads above water (me included).
Don't know if it already exists but someone should just create a company or website cataloging all of these scams and charge a very nominal fee (like under $20) to those who subscribe.
Signed,
Frustrated and broke

I received the scam email as well. It is pretty easy to spot them most of the time. They are getting smarter-They titled the position I sent me resume to as "Admin/Office Position". Im so sick of these!!! Its freakin ridiculous that ppl would do this to ppl who are doing their best to find a decent job with all the layoffs and the economy the way it is. This crap pisses me off to no end! That you to whoever started this blog and go the word out there.
Wednesday June 17, 2009 @ 11:32 AM
I received this email today. I have replied to job ads posted on Craigslist and now I'm having 2nd thoughts about doing so! For me, the big red flag was the scammer's Gmail address and poor grammar and spelling in the email. Also the job seemed waaaaay too easy! Thank you to whoever posted this warning.

RE: Jenn
Read the thread! There's pointers in the original post that cover that and people in the comments who are in the same situation as you.
Thursday June 18, 2009 @ 11:34 AM
I just received my email this morning and thought it too good to be true. Thank you for having this site available. It is not right that they are taking advantage of people who are desperately seeking work in this economy.
Thursday June 18, 2009 @ 11:59 AM
I received the same email from Marcos Cruz marcoscrz05[at]gmail.com but the example $ amount was different. I found the listing on craigslist as well but I applied for a lot of jobs so I'm not sure which one it was other than it was posted within the last 2 days.
Thursday June 18, 2009 @ 05:54 PM
Yup, I got an almost identical email this afternoon. I read through it as I have answered a LOT of craigslist job ads lately, but the grammar was my first clue - then I double-checked the email address (gmail, lol), and THEN I got to the job description - $2,000 for 3-4 hours a week? Get real.
They don't have any of my info, good to see other people are keeping the community informed - I googled their name to send out a warning and ended up here.
Keep your chin up, folks. Recessions don't last forever.
Thursday June 18, 2009 @ 07:49 PM
Ugh this is a first for me! Im usually more careful and can detect these scams.. I received an email from HL Plastics and sent back my info, but nothing different that was already on my resume. I emailed them back notifying them I reported them to the company and craigslist. I really hope they leave me alone and dont send me anything... Ill post a comment if I receive anything...
Thank you so much for the info on this site... Im really glad they dont have my bank info or anything!
Monday June 15, 2009 @ 07:04 AM
I just received this same email. They look legit according to the http://www.hlplastics.co.uk/. They however asked for my info that regular employers don't ask for until you're actually hired, it is depressing since I have been looking for well over a month and am behind on all my payments car, insurance, etc...This was the first response I have received in 3 weeks. I have a ability to get a job real quick a matter of days, but not anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has taken one of these "checks" and cashed it instead of depositing it, and if it would be flagged or not. This is as good as the UK Lottery, or the African Prince that wants me to have with his inheritance. Thanks for the explanation. best of luck on the job hunts.
