- # 70222 The Mayan Calendar says the world will end on Dec 21, 2012, which really means a lot of babies will be born on Sept 21, 2013.

The Mayan calendar was around for thousands of years before the Julian calendar or the Gregorian calendar... so technically your post is quite ignorant of the facts ... Scholars say the Mayan calendar is more accurate than what we currently use.

On 2012, December 21st, there will be a significant event. Our Sun will be centered on our galaxy. The Galactic Alignment is the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This alignment occurs as a result of the precession of the equinoxes.
Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shifts the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the sun is one-half of a degree wide, it will take the December solstice sun 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator. What this means to us, nothing instantly, but over time it will validate sceintific studies, by the people who actually study astronomy. There will be no end of times, many of the people write on here for the satisfaction of their curiosity, or dwelling on the fear of the unknown. It's human nature. There will be some effects on our planet, but it's not like the ocean is going to swallow us all, nor is their any reason for people to use the Lord's name in vain to even discuss this. It will be a great day for the astronomy world, and a financial opportunity for the smart people with all the sheep following them. It's going to be exciting to watch lost sheep get worked up about this.
