That "help from the government" is actually help from the rest of us who work, even when we're single parents. Keep the job, it's the honorable thing to do. Your kids will see you NOT lying on the couch collecting other people's money, and hopefully decide to carry on the tradition.

Then do what other people do when short on money. Work more hours or get a second job. I'm a single mother and never once looked for a handout.

The only thing that got on my nerves about it was the fact that I wanted WIC for my daughter when she was an infant and they denied me because I made $100 too much but others out there do there illegal under the table jobs, collect, have section 8 and have a boyfriend...meanwhile driving a brand new car! I would never go on welfare but was just trying to make a point.
