Actually in the beginning, it wasn't about ending slavery, only containing it below 36.30 north latitude. Texas actually gave up part of their state to Oklahoma, rather than give up slaves. However, that wasn't good enough for the racists. They fired the first shots at Ft. Sumpter. The rest is history. You should read it sometime.
