Fri, 7/3/2009 is a FED holiday.

This list was compiled using the USPS holiday schedule.

According to them July 3rd is not a holiday.
"On Friday, July 3, regular mail delivery services will be available. However, most Post Offices will close at 12 noon, and most collection times will be advanced to noon. Customers who may need retail or collection services after 12:00 noon on July 3 should contact their local Postmaster for information on Post Office locations that will maintain normal retail and lobby collection hours."

On the 2010 federal holiday schedule there is an error on the christams day date. it say's it is closed christmas day "friday the 24th" but christmas day is saturday the 25th,2010. does that mean the post office will actually be closed saturday the 25th?

Theres also an error for the independence day date on the 2010 schedule. when has july 4th ever been on july 5th????!!!

Guys, the postal holidays are set by United States laws. Unless there were amendments to these laws there are no errors in this posting. As noted this list of holiday was taken directly from United States Postal Service.

July 4, 2010 (the legal public holiday for Independence Day), falls on a Sunday. For most Federal employees including postal employees, Monday, July 5, will be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes. (See section 3(a) of Executive order 11582, February 11, 1971.)

December 25, 2010 (the legal public holiday for Christmas Day), falls on a Saturday. For most Federal employees, Friday, December 24, will be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes. (See 5 U.S.C. 6103(b).)

I also added the above to the original post to avoid misunderstandings.

My evening tour is from 18:00-02:30. I'm working the 24th of December. At 00:01 the 25th of December, do I get Holiday Pay for the remainder of my tour?? (I'm a fairly new hire.)

Since christmas falls on a friday this year when do we receive our pay? is it on thursday

Hah, does the federal government not have an HR department or something? These are questions you usually would ask the employer. Not some random blog.

Tj----Do you not realize how big the federal government is?? Most managers don't know their left from right hand!!! and had no clue when 'payday' was. HR dept. is now in North Carolina and all you get is transferred from one dept to the next on most questions. Michelle probably hit a dead end and was trying to get an idea of when payday was going to be, so I don't blame her for asking this question on your blog(she probably has received 10 different answers to 1 question)since you have so much USPS info.
If you are a USPS employee, you could of answered her question. If not a USPS employee, Michelle, payday was on the 12/23/09..
and....TJ if this is such a 'random blog', lose the USPS info.....

Sorry, maybe I was being a little rude considering were talking about the sometimes inept government... No this site is not affiliated with the Federal government nor do I work for the federal government. I just felt there would be so many better places to pose such specific job related questions. Often times I feel people don't really pay attention to where they submit information too, they do a search and submit on the first site that comes up. I don't think this blog gets enough hits to get a timely and accurate response for such an issue. I definitely wouldn't trust a response from a random posting on the internet over an answer from someone in charge of processing her checks.

Well it sucks for all of us postal employees that will have a "non holiday" day off only to return to what I am imagining as a nightmare of mail and parcels to be delivered on the next delivery day. If only the supervisors and other management would follow there non existent "even flow of mail".

It will be closed saturday the 25th but i would like to know about the 24th. i am a carrier.

There is no mailon sundays and thats why we are closed on july 5th to be observed

Patriot Day (September 11, 2010 - 9/11) should be a
Federal Holiday for Postal services. It is not too late to change. Flag must fly at half-staff from morning light until evening darkness on ALL government establishments, businesses, homes, banks, hospitals and etc. Remembrance services should occur between 8:46 a.m. (EDT)until dark.

My comments above should also state that on Patriot Day (September11) was voted on and approved by Congress and authorized by the President (Public Law 107-89, December 18, 2001. Pursue peace and justice in the world. God Bless America.

If the Post office want's to stay in business it needs to get rid of all package service and sell off planes and trucks not needed to other package delivery carriers. Just deliver mail, sell stamps etc plus keep their stores. Time to get rid of things others can do better and cheaper. Layoffs could be avoided and cut what they don't need. The USPS is probably top heavy and cut down on expenses. Save the people.
